Ankaragucu wins regular season finale, narrowly misses playoffs
Despite a three-game winning streak to end the regular season, the magical run by Ankaragucu concluded on Sunday night. Although the team captured a 92-88 road victory against Konyaspor, Ankaragucu missed the playoffs as a tiebreaker with four other teams did not fall in their favor. OD Anosike ended the game with 12 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists.
“Coming into tonight’s game, we knew we didn’t control our own destiny regarding the playoffs” said Anosike. “We needed to win but we also had to rely on some help from some other teams around the league. We controlled what we could control and got the win, but unfortunately our season ended tonight. I would like to thank my teammates, coaches, and staff along with all of the supporters who stayed with us all year. It was an honor to represent this city and club and I wish everyone the best of luck moving forward.”
With the regular season now complete, Anosike officially became the league’s leading rebounder with an average of 13.8 per contest. He also added averages of 12 points and 2.8 assists, along with a team-high 10 double-doubles and a 57 percent field goal percentage. Joining the team in January, he helped a 5-14 team to a 10-5 record in their final 15 games and end the season at 15-19, good for a tie for 8th place in the league standings.
