Anosike’s strong play leads Varese to upset win over second place Reggio Emilia
Italian Serie A squad Pallacanestro Varese secured a huge win on their home floor this weekend against high-powered Grissin Bon Reggio Emilia, 82-71. Starting Center O.D. Anosike lead the team’s balanced attack with his 4th double-double on the year — scoring 10 points and snatching down a game-high 13 rebounds (4 offensive).
“We needed this win in the worst way, especially after losing a heart-breaker last weekend” said Anosike. “To come out and play so well against such a talented team like Reggio speaks volumes about what type of toughness and resolve our guys have. We need to use this momentum to propel ourselves forward as we head into a difficult part of our schedule”.
Anosike has found his rhythm in the recent weeks, recording three straight double-doubles. With the upset victory, Pallacanestro Varese improves to 4-7 while Grissin Bon Reggio Emilia drops to 8-3. Varese takes the floor again on Sunday night as the travel to Trento for a road matchup.
