Varese finishes season strong
After a slow start, Pallacanestro Varese finished the Italian regular season in relatively strong fashion – winning 8 out of their final 11 games including a 7 game winning streak. OD Anosike was right in the middle of the team’s turnaround, as he improved his numbers during the course of the season to finish with solid averages of 10 points and 11.1 rebounds.
This marks the sixth consecutive season that Anosike has led his respective league in rebounding, dating back to his 2011-12 junior season at Siena College. He also tallied 12 double doubles, which was good for second in the league.
“I would personally assess this season as tumultuous in the beginning, but very exciting and rewarding during the second half of the year” said Anosike. “We finally began to understand how to win games – both at home and on the road. Unfortunately we hit our hot streak a little too late to make the playoffs, but we are still proud of what we were able to accomplish collectively.”
Pallacanestro Varese concluded the year at 13-17, finishing at 11th place in the standings. After concluding his one-year contract with the team, Anosike is now a free agent.
